A Letter from the Founder

Hello, fellow human,

I’m Joanna, the founder of this group practice, and a registered psychotherapist. I am so glad that you’re here. I know it can be scary to start therapy, it can be scary to talk to a person you’ve just met about your story, but I promise you - none of us are here to judge. All of us here at Kapwa are also just flawed humans who have overcome hardship, who happen to be qualified, passionate therapists. At the heart of this practice is the idea that we heal in human connection, so it is important that you and your therapist have good rapport.

For therapy to work, you need to have a good therapeutic alliance - a therapeutic relationship where we build trust and have respect. You, our client, are the expert of your lived experiences, and your therapist is the expert of the therapeutic process. Our goal is that you feel seen, heard, and understood in every session; but not only that, we want to gently push you towards change. We will do what we can to help you get to where you want to be. That said, change doesn’t happen overnight and healing is not linear, so please be patient with yourself, and be patient with the process.

I’m proud of you, for even starting the search, and taking this step. Go ahead and book a mutual fit call with me or one of our Kapwa therapists - let’s see how we might be able to help you in this season of your life. You deserve better. You deserve to invest in your mental and emotional well being. You deserve support.

We hope to get to know you.

In your corner,

Joanna
